Mentorsplus conducts UPCAT and ACET review right inside the Ateneo campus every summer.

You may hear that going to a review center doesn't help you at all. I'll admit that there are many review centers and since there is no regulation, there's no way to check if the program is effective or not.


Some say you don't need to review because you'll pass anyway. If you're smart and have been consistently in the honor roll since 1st yr high school, you stand a great chance of getting into UP or Ateneo. But think about this. UP Diliman takes in 4500 or so out of 40000 applicants. It's very competitive! And since most students from Metro Manila prefer UP Diliman as their campus choice, that's what makes passing UP really tough -- not the test itself.


You have to be in the top 10% of all examinees to get in. If you count all the honor students in all the schools in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, they may number more than 4500. That's why a review center can help bolster your chance.


Your 1st-3rd yr high school grades will account for about half of your application grade in all the college entrance applications, whether it be UP, Ateneo, DLSU or UST. So if you haven't done too well so far in HS, you've got some catching up to do.


So for some, it's true that a review is not necessary. For the others, it helps them feel more confident (and rightfully so, because review programs should teach shortcuts, faster way of solving things, formulae, tips on answering certain test types, etc.)


Mentorsplus for its part has the smallest class size among the major review centers in Katipunan (only 24 compared to the 40 or more in the other centers). This helps in personalizing your review. It offers pre-tests and post-tests to compare if you really learned something. It ranks students so you'll know if you really have a chance of getting into the magic top 10% of the batch. At the very least, it gives its students an honest assessment of their strengths and weaknesses so they can be guided accordingly on which lessons to brush up on and further hone.
